MY STORY

I aim to capture the history and beauty of the Chesapeake Bay on canvas and in sculptures. Past and present intersect in my contemporary figurative artwork. I capture the simplicity of line and form, while evoking the tonalism of the Shore’s environment. I hope to join the art community’s resurgence on this small and often overlooked peninsula known as the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

When I was born, they must have injected an extra dose of Chesapeake Bay salt water into my veins. After living in six states, in 2017 my husband and I retired to Onancock, Virginia and live out on a “neck” which overlooks the Onancock Creek. As a mom of four and grandmother of seven and counting, I have always been involved in making or teaching art. The turning point came when I saw a multi-medium American-made Belsnickle (Santa) on the cover of a magazine and fell in love. Knowing I could not afford the Santa, I proceeded to “give it a try” to make one myself. What did I have to lose I told myself. It was successful and led to a sculpture class that I participated in for nearly two decades.
